Program purpose and scope

The program provides food handlers with foundational knowledge needed to handle food safely in entry-level food-service roles. It addresses basic foodborne illness, personal hygiene, contamination prevention, time and temperature control, cleaning and sanitizing, allergens, and safe food handling.

Intended learning outcomes

After successfully completing the program, learners should be able to recognize common food-safety hazards, apply personal-hygiene practices, prevent contamination and cross-contamination, use appropriate time and temperature controls, and support effective cleaning and sanitizing practices.

Certificate requisites

Learners must complete all required training activities and achieve at least 70% on the 40-question assessment. Unlimited assessment retakes are included. There is no maximum completion time unless otherwise communicated through the learning platform.

Technical and participation requirements

A compatible internet-connected phone, tablet, or computer and modern web browser are required. Browser settings must permit the course functionality and any necessary pop-up windows. English reading comprehension is strongly recommended. Translation assistance may be available upon request and may involve an additional fee.

Credit and certificate use

The program does not award academic credit, college credit, CEUs, contact hours, or other continuing-education credit.
